The NCC - The Canucks-Abroad Perspective....(Toronto)

Deciding game of the 2009 NCC tonight - Toronto need a 4 goal win. As you would expect, the Major League club has the most experience, and most talent group of domestic players. Here's a run down of their Canadian players with experience abroad.

Toronto FC:

#5 Kevin Harmse

Former Whitecap player Kevin Harmse joined TFC last season as Ruud Gullit's firesale to raise allocation funds was in full swing. A physical player, he's shown added versatility lately playing DR, DC, MC and MR. Prone to an occassional rush of blood to the head, the South African born CMNT player spent the 2006 season in Slovakia with Nitra where he established himself as a starting DM before injury cut his time there short. He came back to MLS and has 5 caps for the CMNT.

#11 Jim Brennan

The TFC captain was the first player signed by the team back in 2006 ahead of their inaugural season. He'd made his career at left mid and lef back in England for 11 seasons but played 2007 as a centre half. He's been back in his normal role the past 2 seasons. With nearing 50 caps for the CMNT, he's extremely experienced on the international front in addition to his time in England, including in the EPL. He played for Bristol City, Nottingham Forrest, Huddersfield, Norwich and Southampton while in England.

#14 Dwayne De Rosario

For all his MLS exploits - four championship rings, All-Star appearances and 2 Goal of the Seasons - it's often overlooked that DeRo had two seasons abroad from 1997-1999. Having started at the Toronto Lynx, he joined German lower league club, Zwickau before returning to North America and the Richmond Kickers. A few years ago he expressed an interest to try his luck in Europe again, but after a trial at Blackburn and Nottingham Forrest, he returned to MLS without a contract. Arguably the best player in MLS over the past 5 or so seasons, he also has 15 international goals in 49 appearances for the CMNT.

#15 Adrian Serioux

After 5 seasons at the Toronto Lynx, Serious moved to England with London club, Millwall, where in 2004/05 they found themselves in the UEFA Cup briefly after a memorable FA Cup Final run the year before. Despite losing to Man United 3:0, they made it into European competition by virtue of their opponents league record. He came back to North America the next season signing briefly for nY before being traded by him current GM Mo Johnston to Houston. Johnson later selected Serioux for TFC in the expansion draft before then trading him again, this time to Dallas. He eventually signed the defender-cum-defensive midfielder for a third time, opting to keep him this season. He has 16 caps for Canada.

Toronto has a few top young Canucks in the form of Nana Attakora and Gabe Gala who have good futures ahead. They have a hsot of former Canucks Abroad - Kenny Stamatopoulos, Marco Reda, Adam Braz, Tyler Hemming, Tyler Rosenlund, Chris Pozniak and current CA, David Monsalve amongst them.
